The Wingless Warrior and Armed Forces
The Wingless Warrior and Armed Forces
Story
Hi friends!
WE'RE BAAAAAAACK!
Kerry-Lee "The Wingless Warrior" Gockel and Joep "Legs Miserable" Buijs are back to swim the iconic Island Charity Swim in 2024!
We had such a great time last year and are pumped to do it again. The swim itself is only part of the reason we love this event so much. The Island Charity Swim raises much needed funds for the Nambour, Currimundi and Palmview State Special Schools on the Sunshine Coast. The event also creates an opportunity for the wider community to get to know the amazing kids from the special schools and their families.
We'll be swimming side by side from Mudjimba, around Old Woman Island, and south to Mooloolaba - a distance of approximately 10km.
We're incredibly grateful to have our "Armed Forces" supporting us:
Jan Katers - our Wingman-on-Kayak
Val Kalmikovs - our legendary boat skipper all the way from Rockhampton, on his boat "Meow"
Sally Dymond - our hype gal and on-water support
Paul Gockel - our training partner and on-land support
What a ripper team!
We want to create a tidal wave of support for the special schools by fundraising $10,000. We blew that target out of the water last year and want to smash it again this year!
We'd be stoked if you'd jump on board and donate using the link on this page. No donation is too small!
Please note: Donations are NOT tax deductible.
Our heartfelt thanks for supporting us again this year.
Big love to you all,
KL, Joep and the Armed Forces

Island Swim - Mudjimba to Mooloolaba
Island Charity Swim is a not for profit charity that works with the community to raise much needed funds to assist the children who learn at the three Sunshine Coast special schools - Currimundi, Nambour and Palmview. We work hard to organise this annual event, inviting our community to challenge themselves to swim different lengths in our beautiful Sunshine Coast ocean. The Sunshine Coast Special School kids thank you for giving your time, money and for contributing to such an amazing event!
